Dussuc, Madier D. ABSTRACT Figures which have equal areas, equal perimeters in mathematics textbooks for primary students in Vietnam and France Tran Duc Thuan Faculty of Primary Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education Previous studies showed two approaches to the concept of perimeter and area: geometric approach based on visual figures, propositions, theorems in Geometry and approaches associated with numbers using rules, formula to calculate perimeter, area.
Besides the solution associated with the number, many problems of comparison, construction related to the perimeter, the area of polygons can be solved by geometric approach. Compared to Vietnamese textbooks, French textbooks have more exercises, which allow students to recognize that many different figures have equal areas and equal perimeters.
Participating in experiential activities, primary students can create many figures which have equal areas and equal perimeters. Keywords: Geometric approach, approach associated with numbers, equal perimeter, equal area.
