Hi, Does it make more sense to jailbreak my ipod touch 3g using BlackRa1n? Or to wait for an untethered jailbreak? If I Jailbroke using Blackra1n now would I have to restore to remove the jailbreak and Jailbreak using the untethered Jailbreak?
Floi is wonderful. I played with blackra1n for 2 hours and tried different methods found on the web. Floi taught us to make the iphone into the recovery mode manually, then allow blackra1n doing the rest. Yes, I just made sure to backup my iphone 3gs on my mac just in case , and just plugged it in to my friends PC. Hey guys attempted the jailbreak several times before I successfully did it. Now my problem is that neither Cydia nor Icy are working? Did I miss a step? I upgraded from jailbroken 3. Blackra1n would not work. It would run, I would get the screen, and it would reboot, but no Blackra1n icon would appear.
I decided to restore to factory settings. After doing that, Blackra1n worked perfectly. I am now attempting to restore from backup.

I got exactly the same problem, i just received my 3gs 16gb yesterday and i did the steps over and over, still stuck on the black screen. You need just to jailbreak! So accordingly, if you had unlocked before then you need not worry about further unlock for a 2G — just JB.

Donation to geohot coming most definitely in the near future. The jailbreak works great but in my noob euphoria I also installed ICY, dammit. I wish I had come here first to read the warnings. Now SBSettings will not install or run. Please i also installed all three, cydia, icy and rock at the same time. Take your sim card out. I tried about a billion times, and nothing every worked. Then I took my sim card out and it worked. Well, this is annoying. How do you remove icy? I have just installed blackra1n worked like a charm after a couple of tries and I got O2 network too.
Once you click on a app it comes up for a millisec and poof gone! I use a mac pro running itunes 9. All seems to work except all of my free apple applications. I have tried to re-installed a zillion times. I have upgraded to 3. But, i did not update to the carrier settings.

How do i remove Icy? What can de done????? The above solutions are not going to work. Nor is iTuneshelper. If you end applemobiledevice then the phone may not even get detected by blackra1n. The phone is simply going to into recovery mode and wait for iTunes to be opened.
Of course you can disconnect the iPhone and it will say it completed. I shutdown then I make it rain and it never comes out of recovery mode? HELP any other ideas would be great. Any fix for these? I cant delete ICY, I installed all the apps on blackra1n and have since found out that it could be icy that are making sbsettings not work. I have tried to instal cydelete but that does not appear in my settings how can I delete ICY without having to restore the phone? Themes have. BlackRa1n doesnt jailbreak the iphone for me. All of the recommendations seem to be BS, except those about killing processes… That said, here is my advice:. Close blackrain, reboot your phone and come back here to figure out what went wrong. What about doing the jailbreak from safemode? That way none of the extra processes would startup in the first place, right?
Could Geohot comment on the other running processes? I did the jailbraik, got the screen with geohot on my phone, saw the spin for the reboot and…. What do I do. It all looked perfect. Now I have nothing on my phone. The jailbreak seemed to go smoothly and phone rebooted as it sould after showing geohot, except the apps wont synch.

I am able to jailbreak the phone after each restore but anytime I turn my phone off and back on with it jailbroken I have to do the itunes restor. Not everyone has it so easy as you. I tried jailbreaking my Iphone 3G with blackrain and it got as far as step 5, but never got to install Cydia. My phone turned off and I have not been able to turn it on ever since.
I have tried holding the power button and menu botton at the same time for 10 seconds and I have also tried restoring the phone with itunes without success. Am I totally out of luck here?

Hi I got the my 3G 16gb successfully jailbroken, but every time I try to open an app that I downloaded from the app store, it loads for a second and then automatically closes then I get reverted back to the home screen. Can someone help me with this problem?

Can anyone help me? It took me awhile to get Blackra1n to work from the video instruction I was following. I found this site and the instruction included the stopping of the iTunesHelper. Once I did that it worked like a charm. The one odd thing I have going on is that when ever I restart the iPhone and it comes back on, it indicates that I have a new voice message and when I swipe to unlock it calls my voice mail server.

A tethered jailbreak is where once the device has been jailbroken, you have to plug your device into the compute everytime you want to turn your device on.
If the battery dies or you just happen to turn it off you have to wait until you can plug into the computer to turn it back on. In this case it turned out to be a tethered jailbreak. I had difficulty with getting blackra1n to work.
The screen just stayed black. I could reboot by holding down to power and home button but after that no blackra1n icon. I tried my laptop also XP also no luck. Finally tried another cable and tried not unlocking slider to the right the phone and one of both seemed to work.

For the newer batches, which is what I presume yours to be is only supported at the present time by what is known as a tethered jailbreak. This means you have to plug your phone in and use blackra1n each time to turn the phone on. I have a 3gs which I purchased in August This is an older batch and it is supported by untethered jailbreak which means I can turn my phone off and on without the need to plug it into a computer.
I think the Dev Team are working on a project called greenpo1son, which I believe is going to be a tool for developers and will also enable you to do an untethered jailbreak for the new batch of Iphones. Look out for this but if you go on any forums please do not rush these guys. We have to just be patient and let them work at their pace. Yes it is, if you have the 3GS with 3. Apple patched a bootrom exploit that jailbreakers use, so blackra1n is the only available option as of present, and it is only a tethered one.

To be honest I have a few friends that have there phones jail broken with this method and it doesnt actually bother them as much as they first expected. They just never let their battery die.
I myself would not be happy with this option as I think to myself you never know what might happen with your phone that might want you to turn it off. After all the iphone is a computer and sometimes computers do require a restart if things if they freeze or something like that.
Saying that i have had my phone for 4 months and have not had to do that yet. So for now Jeff unfortunately this is the only option for you if you want to jailbreak your phone.
